Lisa Buckner & Huw James visited Morales Elementary School in Pasadena, Texas on February 2nd, 2023, to participate in their Morales Science Family Night from 4:45 pm to 6:00 pm. The pupils for this event were kindergarten through 4th grade. The pupils and their families were extremely polite and well behaved as they were in previous years. They were curious and attentive.

Our main features were the “Drilling for Oil” game, rock samples from a kit, and a large block of salt from the Hockley Salt Mine located in Northwest Harris County. We distributed 38 coiled toy springs but kept the conversation at the 4th grade level. Our samples of gypsum, obsidian, pumice, and rock salt received thorough observation followed by limestone, sandstone, shale, slate, and marble - which is pretty outstanding for our age bracket! We can thank Mine Craft, Game of Thrones, and Harry Potter for this. The oil drilling game (Fig. 1) was very popular with the difficulty set very carefully between impossible and easy. Everyone including presenters, parents, and kids had a lot of fun.

The science teacher, Ritu Gandhi, said:

“We want to thank you for volunteering your time for our science family night. Our students and families enjoyed the fun and engaging activities. Your work makes a huge difference in the lives of our students and parents. We greatly appreciate you for making our science family night a huge success! “
