Girls Exploring Math and Science (GEMS) at the Houston Museum of Natural Science on Saturday, November 5, 2022. Michelle Warner, Daniella Easley and Huw James volunteered to operate the GSH booth. The booth was well attended with much attention being paid to the “Drilling for Oil Game”. Michelle and Daniella did an outstanding job organizing and leading the event and made the game uniquely theirs by implementing new approaches for forming exploration teams (Fig1). The 115 participants were excited to receive "Slinky" coiled toy springs as a gift for trying the game. The Houston Geological Society also attended and gave away Rock Salt samples from the Hockey salt dome mine.

The GSH Volunteers had the pleasure of judging the Girl Scouts spectacular project booths on the second floor. The judges selected the top three of nine booths created by Girl Scout Troops from both middle and high school .

The event organizer said “Thank you for participating as a Community Booth at GEMS this year! We had an impressive turnout of over 1,400 GEMS visitors. Your booths were incredibly busy throughout the event, and we got a lot of positive feedback from guests that attended GEMS this year.”
